Friday dinner
Curator - Nurit Yarden
For two years, Merav Stark documented her family’s traditional Friday evening dinners. About twenty people have gathered regularly at the apartment of her father, who also cooked the meals. The regular participants in the colorful, lively and high-spirited meals are family and friends. The photographs reflect joie de vivre, constant movement, and noise and bustle which are almost palpable. Everyone who partakes, young and old, help set the table, clear and wash the dishes.
The photographs in the exhibit have the appearance of theater scenes with multiple actors, reflecting the bond between family members and the shared life they have created over the years. The powerful dynamic in Stark's work stems from the natural behavior of the people photographed. This allows her to create a true and vivid family portrait.
